Accessibility
We want everyone who makes music to be able to use Subh le Chéile. This site aims for level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and follows the French RGAA 4.1 method.
What we did
- Works without JavaScript and with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus and a skip link.
- Text can be enlarged to 200 % and the page reflows down to 320 pixels wide.
- Colours meet contrast requirements in both light and dark mode, and follow your system choice.
- Animations are short, never flash, and stop entirely if you ask your system to reduce motion.
- The Irish and French versions are marked with their language, so screen readers switch voice.
- Body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers.
How we check
Every page is tested automatically against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules (axe-core) in light and dark mode, at phone and desktop sizes, and navigated with the keyboard. Last check: .
The jam app
The app is about sound, and we have tried to make everything around it usable without sight: controls are labelled for screen readers, and players joining or leaving, connection problems and mode changes are announced. The whole app, jam room included, is in English, Irish and French. Known limit: the level meters and delay figures are visual only.
